Our commitment to sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability

While we’re working hard to provide our customers with best-in-class IT solutions, we’re also aware that the work we do has an effect on the environment. Operating sustainably is important to us, and we know it’s important to our customers too.

Data centres currently account for 2% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions, and they consume around 3% of our global electricity supply[i]. As a data centre service provider, we understand that we’re accountable for the carbon footprint of our three data centres, and we use the latest technologies to minimise their impact on the environment.

We’ve achieved a Power Usage Efficiency (PUE) of 1.1 for our data centres, thanks to our ongoing investment in energy efficiency measures such as Adiabatic cooling, creating 1200mm floor voids, cold aisle containment and warm air recycling. Our data centres are also supplied with 100% renewable electricity. These initiatives mean that our data centres are among some of the greenest facilities in Europe. As they’re so efficient, we also have lower overheads, so we can deliver stable contracts for our customer that aren’t subject to increasing power costs.

Our commitment to sustainability doesn’t end there – we’ve been ISO 4001 certified since 2007, which means that we meet the internationally agreed standard for our Environmental Management System (EMS).

We also aim to make a positive impact on the local environment by working on a carbon offset programme in partnership with The Forest of Marston Vale. They’re using trees and woodlands to rejuvenate the local area, which has been damaged by decades of brick making. Blue Chip has pledged to plant 2000 trees for every rack we manage (750,000 in total!), and we hold regular customer and staff tree-planting days. This policy has even been recognised by the Carbon Trust – watch the video below to find out more.
