How does SAP HANA work on the cloud?

SAP HANA (High-performance Analytic Appliance) is an in-memory database that allows for rapid processing of large amounts of real-time data. Said to be approximately 3,600 times faster than traditional databases, SAP HANA delivers seamless integration with a wide range of external and internal sources.

With advanced learning capabilities, SAP HANA can incorporate huge amounts of unstructured data – such as text, predictive, spatial, event streams, and time series. Excellent in-memory technology allows medium and large businesses to load data faster from various locations while reducing the time needed to perform the most complex reports.

It’s true that the advantage of storing more information can cause an increase in hardware and maintenance costs, but by migrating this in-memory database to the cloud, it’s possible to save money, improve processes and maximise ROI.

SAP HANA in the cloud

As a proven in-memory platform with a simplified architecture and reduced administration, SAP HANA is ideally suited for cloud migration. There’s absolutely no disk latency or data duplication and it’s suitable for a wide range of cloud models, such as:

Private

Operated in an on-premise facility, a private cloud environment allows businesses a great deal of agility, virtualisation and on-demand scaling, but in a completely controlled environment. It’s the costliest cloud deployment option, but you’re guaranteed control over the infrastructure, hardware and change management.

Public

Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure offer a range of services for SAP HANA, but for many medium and large companies, the public cloud does not deliver the configuration flexibility or administrative quality required. Put simply, the public cloud is not often the first port of call for strong performance.

Hybrid

With the right hybrid cloud environment, companies can test the impact of system changes in the cloud before committing to potentially costly upgrades. It therefore offers a great deal of flexibility and security with opportunities to scale-up. Delivering the best of both worlds, the hybrid approach enables business to adopt the cloud for workloads that are not mission-critical, while keeping core systems on premise.

The Blue Chip Cloud: Simplicity, predictable costs and supreme SAP HANA expertise

Migrating business-critical systems to entirely new infrastructure can be an onerous prospect with unpredictable costs, data residency, performance, downtime and increasing regulation among the most worrying aspects. There is, however, a cloud environment that allows businesses to achieve digital transformation while controlling costs, maximising security, and increasing automation: the Blue Chip Cloud.

The key to successful innovation is collaboration

With managed SAP HANA on Blue Chip Cloud, SAP estates can be seamlessly migrated onto a secure, accredited, compliant and flexible Private Cloud; hosted in UK-based Tier IV by design and Tier III data centres and backed by industry-leading certifications. Blue Chip continues to innovate, teaming up with Centiq to help businesses take their SAP and SAP HANA workloads to the cloud. Blue Chip’s Sales & Marketing Director, Chris Smith, highlights the importance of ensuring a quick, smooth and painless migration.

“What we deliver from our cloud is certainty of cost and certainty of security as well. With our great partnership with Centiq, we are  able to deliver SAP, SAP HANA, on top of our infrastructure in a seamless way. In reality, we can deliver a whole SAP HANA environment within hours.”

Predictable costs

With Blue Chip’s hybrid approach, you’re able to acquire additional efficiencies and further reduce the over-provisioning of IT resources. With exceptional reliability and predictability, it’s easier to control costs whilst you’re able to reduce Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) at the same time.

Secure and compliant

Delivering the highest level of security (PCI DSS Level 1, SOC 2 and ISO 27001) and compliance (ISO 9001, 14001 and 22301), the Blue Chip Cloud allows organisations to run SAP HANA securely, while increasing operational efficiency and reducing risk. In addition to having secure access to public cloud services, you’re also guaranteed operational support by a team with full SAP HANA expertise.

Agile

The Blue Chip Cloud perfectly balances processing and data storage between on-premise and off-premise resources to increase efficiency. It also offers a great deal of flexibility, allowing businesses to upgrade and scale their cloud service to meet their changing needs.

Automated

Organisations can save time and money with automated deployment, helping businesses run and scale applications quickly and seamlessly, whilst streamlining compliance. Using consistent and templated approaches, Blue Chip can deliver cloud test and production environments, even for workloads in the SAP HANA database, within just 48 hours.
