Blue Chip & the Bedford Half Marathon

You can often find us singing the praises of our exceptional team members, but it’s typically because of the outstanding service they provide for our clients. However, we’re also well aware that many of our staff continue to go above and beyond for others in their spare time.

In September, several members of the Blue Chip team tackled the Bedford Half Marathon. Anita, Charlie, Paul, Vince and Tom all took part, training extensively for the event and all making great time on the day. Charlie and Anita also raised around £1000 for their respective charities, with many of the donations coming from their colleagues at Blue Chip, making their efforts even more worthwhile!

Fundraising made the Half Marathon more than just a run for Anita – here’s what she had to say:

“I started running half marathons in 1987, when I completed the Great North Run with my Dad. Sadly, he’s since been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and in the ten years since his diagnosis I’ve learnt first-hand how it can affect people’s mobility, speech and even their mental health. On a more positive note, I’ve also seen how support groups like Parkinson’s UK can make life that bit easier for sufferers and their families.

So when I heard about the Bedford Half Marathon in October 2016, my first thought was that it would be an excellent way to raise money for Parkinson’s UK.  While I’d run half marathons in the past, I hadn’t taken part in one for years at this point, so it was a bit daunting! However, with some help from personal trainers and my colleagues that were also running, I worked on my running in the months before the race.

On the day, I managed to complete the event in 2 hours and 55 minutes. It’s not as fast as I’d have liked, but as I hadn’t run for nearly 30 years it wasn’t far off my personal best of 2 hours 20 minutes! More importantly, I managed to raise a grand total of £424.28 for Parkinson’s UK, which will go towards funding research into new and more effective treatment for the disease. I’m extremely grateful to everyone who sponsored and supported me on my journey and at the race itself – and I’m already planning to take part in next year’s event!”
