Double Brands GP Win Moves Blue Chip Sponsored Breeze to Top of Standings

Blue Chip sponsored racing driver, King’s Lynnrace ace Carl Breeze, moved back to the top of the Michelin Ginetta GT Supercup points table and will go into the final rounds leading the championship standings after securing two victories and another top five finish at a sun-bathed Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit last weekend.

Qualifying on pole position for round 23 of the campaign after sensationally grabbing back the top spot in the dying seconds, Breeze got away well from the line to hold the lead going into Paddock Hill Bend and began to edge away from championship rivals Tom Sharp, Adam Morgan and Nathan Freke.

Although a Safety Car period on lap three eradicated the cushion he had started to build, the TCR star made a good re-start and was never headed on his way to his 15th podium of 2011 and possibly his most important win of the campaign so far.

Ahead of the Silverstone season finale two weeks from now, Breeze heads the title race by eight points after an impressively strong outing for the Wednesbury squad. Adding to his Saturday win with another fine victory in round 24 on Sunday morning, the TCR ace was in contention for yet another podium in round 25 but had to settle for fifth in the end.

Starting the first of the day’s races from pole position, by virtue of his finishing position in round 23, Breeze was never headed throughout the 14 laps as he fended off huge pressure from championship rival Tom Sharp.

Posting the fastest lap, and new lap record, of 1m31.315 seconds (90.70mph) on the seventh tour, Breeze soaked up every bit of attention but managed to build a lead of 1.5 seconds before easing off to take the chequered flag 0.8 seconds clear of Sharp.

In round 25, Breeze lined-up fifth on the ‘reverse’ grid and although slipping behind Colin White at the start he got back ahead and gained an additional place when Sharp crashed out on lap two. After a three lap Safety Car interlude, racing resumed on the sixth tour and Breeze continued in fourth while also mounting a challenge for third on Phil Broad.

Another Safety Car was required on lap 10 and at the second re-start positions remained unchanged although Breeze continued to search for a way onto the podium. His best chance came on lap 14 into Paddock Hill Bend with a fantastic run out of Clark Curve but Broad kept the door firmly closed.

Unfortunately on lap 15, the TCR man got ever so slightly out of shape at Graham Hill Bend under braking and the momentary blip enabled White to get alongside on Cooper Straight before taking fourth into Surtees. Breeze kept up the pressure to secure fifth place and score more valuable points.

“It was fantastic to score two wins and the reverse grid can always prove a banana skin, so I was very pleased to score more points. We have doubled our championship lead to eight points and I’m confident we can challenge for race wins in the two races at Silverstone and hopefully wrap up the championship”. said Breeze.

“Carl did a great job this weekend, two wins from three is a good return and means we go to the last round leading the championship”, said TCR team principal Lee Brookes, “Anything can happen there so we’ll do the best we can, provide the best car we can and hopefully we can get it done.”
